Branded merchandise ideas: swag people actually keep
Short answer
The best branded merchandise ideas are things people already use every week: a good hoodie, a cap, a bottle, a notebook, a tote. Pick quality over quantity, keep the logo small and choose for the person, not the brand. Below are 15 ideas, from clothing to packaging, then ideas by who they’re for, plus what to skip.

15 swag ideas people keep.
Every idea here is something people reach for on an ordinary day. That’s the test: if it would sit in a drawer, it isn’t on the list.
To wear

Ometria · Navy zip hoodie A heavyweight hoodie
The piece people wear at weekends. A small chest logo or a tonal print keeps it wearable outside work.
Branded hoodies
n8n · Cap and tumbler
Exclaimer · Printed T-shirt A good T-shirt
Pick a heavier cotton and a cut people choose for themselves. Thin event tees are the ones that end up as dusters.

POLY4 · Zip gilet with a chest logo A gilet or work jacket
Practical for teams who work outside or travel, and a quiet chest logo looks smart on a client visit.
Embroidered jackets
For the desk

Carlsberg Britvic · Hardback notebook A notebook
A hardback with a debossed cover feels considered and gets used in every meeting.
Branded notebooks
Knight Frank · Black pens A pen that writes well
Cheap pens get lost on purpose. A weighty pen with a clean print gets kept.
Branded pens
Felt laptop sleeve with a leather-look flap A laptop sleeve
Felt or leather, sized to a real laptop. It goes everywhere the laptop does.
To drink from

Exclaimer · Navy bottles An insulated bottle
Used daily, seen in every meeting and easy to brand with print or engraving.
Branded water bottles
Black Forest Labs · Travel tumbler A travel tumbler
For the commute and the desk. Check it fits under a coffee machine before you choose it.
A mug
Still a desk favourite. Pick a shape and colour people would buy anyway.
Branded mugs
To carry

Exclaimer · Tote, bottle and card A canvas tote
Thick canvas and long handles make a tote a bag people actually shop with.
Branded tote bags
Folded umbrella in a matching sleeve An umbrella
Useful in a British winter and large enough to carry a logo without shouting.

Optibus · Sticker sheet Stickers
Cheap, light and made for laptop lids. They travel well in any pack.
To pack it in

Optibus · Printed kraft mailer box A branded box
The box sets the first impression. A printed mailer turns three items into one gift.
Custom mailer boxes
Carlsberg Britvic · Notebook, bottle, card and pen in a kraft box A pack of three
A wearable, a desk item and a drink, chosen together. It feels like a gift, not a giveaway.
Ideas by who they’re for.
- New starters. A hoodie, a notebook and a bottle, waiting on their first day. Collect sizes before you order, so nothing goes to waste. Welcome packs
- Clients. Fewer, better pieces with quiet branding: a notebook and pen, a laptop sleeve or an umbrella. Check the client’s own gifts policy first. Client gifts
- Events. Light, packable items people take home: totes, caps, stickers and bottles. Skip anything that needs a size at a busy stand. Event swag
- Your own team. Clothing people choose for themselves, in their size, sent to wherever they work. Your approved collection can stay with us between sends.
How to choose by budget and brand.
Set the budget per person, not per item, then spend it on fewer things. One good hoodie does more than five cheap extras.
- Start with use. Ask where and how often each person would use it. In PPAI’s 2021 study, usefulness was the most common reason people gave for keeping a promotional product.
- Brand with restraint. A small logo, a tonal finish or a design people like on its own gets worn. A huge logo gets left at home.
- Match the method to the product. Embroidery suits caps and sweatshirts, debossing suits notebook covers, and print suits bags and tees. We offer embroidery, screen printing, pad printing, laser engraving, debossing, DTG and DTF printing, and patches, among other methods.
- Think about sizes and delivery. Clothing needs sizes; drinkware and stationery don’t. If people are spread across countries, choose items that travel well.
What to skip.
- Novelty for its own sake. Stress balls and gimmicks are fun for a minute and in the bin by Friday.
- Gadgets that date. Cheap chargers and cables break or go out of date fast.
- One-size clothing. Clothing in the wrong size doesn’t get worn. Collect sizes first.
- Logos as big as the product. The louder the branding, the fewer places people will take it.
- Ordering too many. Order for the people you have and the next few sends, not a guess at next year.
Worth knowing
Design matters as well as use: in PPAI’s 2021 study of 5,674 people in the US and Canada, 34.1% said they keep a promotional product because they like its design.

Questions about swag ideas.
What are promotional products?
Promotional products are everyday items, such as clothing, bags, bottles and stationery, printed or decorated with a company’s brand and given away. Swag is the same idea, usually chosen with more care: things people want to keep, not just things that carry a logo. Cambridge Dictionary describes swag as free things you are given, for example at an event.
What swag do people actually keep?
The things they use: good clothing in the right size, bottles and tumblers, notebooks, totes and caps. Usefulness is the most common reason people give for keeping a branded item, so choose for daily use first and branding second.
How many items should go in a swag pack?
Three well-chosen items usually feel like a gift: something to wear, something for the desk and something to drink from. Managed programmes start at 100 packs of 3 items. For a smaller order you place yourself, Go Swag Select starts from 30 per product and delivers only to UK addresses for now.
How long does branded swag take?
A typical managed order takes 3–4 weeks from brief to delivery, and samples usually take 1–2 weeks. Timings vary by order, so share your date at the start and plan back from it.
