Branded water bottles: how to choose and brand them
Short answer
For most branded water bottles, an insulated stainless steel bottle with a laser-engraved logo is the best choice: the engraved mark has no ink to scratch or wash off. Printing suits full-colour logos and lighter plastic or aluminium bottles. Check the material, the lid and how it’s cleaned before you choose.

Which branded water bottles to choose.
A bottle gets used every day or not at all. Choose for how people will carry it: on a commute, at a desk, at the gym or at an event.
- Insulated stainless steel
- Double-walled steel with a vacuum between the walls keeps drinks cold or hot for hours and doesn’t sweat. It’s heavier and costs more, and some can’t go in the dishwasher.
- Single-wall steel or aluminium
- Lighter and simpler, with no insulation. A good choice for sports, events and large numbers, where weight and cost matter more than keeping coffee hot.
- Tritan
- A clear, tough copolyester that resists shattering and handles the dishwasher. It suits gyms, schools and anyone who wants to see what they’re drinking.
- Glass
- Glass keeps water tasting clean and looks good on a desk, but it’s fragile. Look for a silicone or neoprene sleeve if the bottle will travel.
- Lid and size
- A screw cap seals best in a bag; a sports cap or straw lid suits drinking on the move. Check the bottle fits a bag pocket and a car cup holder, and that the lid can be cleaned properly.
How to brand water bottles: the best decoration methods.
Where the logo goes.
Most bottles carry one logo on the body, vertically or horizontally, opposite any handle or loop so it faces out when the bottle is held. A second mark on the reverse or the cap is a nice detail. Personal names work well too: a name engraved below the logo stops bottles going missing in the office.
Artwork tips for water bottles.
- Send vector artwork. The laser follows the file line for line, and print plates are made from it too. A clean AI, EPS, PDF or SVG file gives the sharpest result.
- Design for a curve. A logo wraps around a cylinder, so very wide designs distort at the edges. Keep the artwork near the centre of the area people will see.
- Go single colour for engraving. Engraving shows the metal, not your brand colour. A one-colour version of the logo, with no gradients or fine shading, engraves best.
- Check personalisation early. Individual names or titles need a clean list before production, spelled exactly as people want them. We confirm the specification for every order.
Making it last.
Read the maker’s care guidance before you choose. Chilly’s, for example, says its bottles shouldn’t go in the dishwasher or soak for long, because it can damage the paint and make the vacuum ineffective.
Engraved logos have no ink to wear. Printed logos last longest on bottles that are hand washed.
Worth knowing
Engraving can affect a premium bottle’s warranty. Chilly’s, for example, excludes damage from engraving done by anyone else. Check the brand’s terms before you choose, or ask us.

Bottles for desks, events and clients.
New starters
An insulated steel bottle with an engraved logo, and their name if you want, is used from day one. It sits on the desk next to the notebook.
Welcome packsEvents and conferences
Lighter aluminium or Tritan bottles suit larger numbers and refill stations, and they travel home in a tote.

Engraved or printed water bottles?
Engrave a coated steel bottle when you want a permanent, premium mark: the laser removes the coating, so there’s nothing to scratch off. Print when the logo needs colour, when the bottle is plastic or glass, or when the artwork has fine detail and several colours.
What is Tritan?
Tritan is a copolyester made by Eastman and used for clear, reusable bottles. Eastman says it’s free of BPA and all other bisphenols, shatter resistant and able to stay clear and durable through years of use and dishwasher cycles. It’s lighter than glass and a good choice where bottles get dropped.
Is stainless steel sustainable?
A steel bottle is durable and recyclable, and the longer it’s used in place of disposable bottles, the better. So the greenest bottle is the one that never leaves someone’s bag: choose one people will want to keep and carry, rather than the cheapest one.
